A Kitchen Renovation Diary

I’d like to start a post series about some of our Sydney kitchen renovations. I think it will give others a really good insight to what happens during a kitchen renovation and what to expect. Also, I’m hoping it might give others some ideas about their own kitchen renovation.

First up is the renovation we completed for Jamie and Rose. After deciding that we would be the best kitchen company to complete their brand new modern and streamlined kitchen, it was time for us to get to work.

The first step after the initial meeting with Jamie and Rose was to ensure that they were happy with all of the design elements in their new kitchen. They opted for a white sheen finish on the doors with 40mm stone benchtops and waterfall ends, a fantastic modern style which will be in vogue for many years to come. Not only is this door style attractive, but it is quite durable compared with a polyurethane finish.

The kitchen area was quite large and enabled a rather open design with plenty of room for entertaining guests. This was one of the elements that was a must in this kitchen design, as the kitchen area opened up onto an outdoor entertaining deck. We created a large island bench with cooktop built in to this area incorporating a drop down ceiling over the island. This made it a fantastic stand out feature in the kitchen, as well as doubling as a housing for the rangehood ducting.

Having plenty of space, Jamie and Rose opted for a design incorporating 2 side-by-side fridges, a huge pantry and broom cupboard, and a row of lift up cabinets. We also decided on a set of corner drawers rather than a corner cabinet, keeping with the look of drawers throughout the kitchen.

And then the work began.

Day 1 – the old kitchen is removed and we now have a clean slate to work with. We had to pull out the existing built in pantry, knock out some brick steps and we built the drop down ceiling. We were quite proud of how good it’s going to look. Also, had to frame up the wall between the existing kitchen and dining area.

Day 2 – the tradesmen have been in to rough in their points ready for the new kitchen to be installed. The gyprocker came in and relined the walls and drop down ceiling.

Day 3 – The new kitchen is delivered and ready for installation.

Day 4 – The new kitchen is installed

Day 5 – Today the stone benchtop was check measured, now we wait about a week for the manufacture of the stone tops.

1 week later – Stone benchtops were installed today. The following day the plumber and electrician returned to connect everything back up.

Once all of the stone benches and trades were complete, it was time to have the glass splashback measured, which was installed a week and a half after, and the kitchen is now complete.

All in all, a really beautiful kitchen with a great open feel and plenty of room to entertain guests. And a very happy and satisfied customer – that’s what it’s all about!
